Portal: Career and Technical Education
From APEC HRDWG Wiki
Career and Technical Education (CTE) prepares individuals for the workforce through the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and competencies in an occupational field, blending the arenas of Education and Labour and Social Protection. CTE, or "Technical and Vocational Education" (TVET), are used in several APEC economies to provide stujdents with a sequence of coursework that builds foundational career knoweldge and specific technical skills. These programs are often found at the secondary and tertiary levels and can lead to occupational degrees or certification specialties for enrolled students. The range of topics covered in CTE/TVET varies from "hands on" occupations, such as machinists and plumbers, to engineering and technology fields.
Policymakers have identified the importance of effective CTE/TVET programs in the APEC region and have designated them as a major priority for the future. During the 5th APEC Education Ministerial Meeting (AEMM) the ministers recoginzed the importance of expanding and improving TVET opportunities in the APEC region. More TVET details from the 5th AEMM can be found in the Ministerial Paper. This portal contains information about CTE Promising Practices that are supported by expert opinion, as well as other activities and resources pertaining to CTE/TVET.
