Teacher Quality may be defined in a variety of ways and economies, school systems, and other educational institutions determine teacher quality using various definitions. It may take the form of a teacher's credentials and degrees, or may be approached from the perspective of student achievement. However it is defined, many research studies have demonstrated the direct link between teacher quality and student performance. Quality teachers are an essential component of education systems, and the Education Network has made studying and promoting teacher quality a priority for APEC.  During the 5th APEC Education Ministerial Meeting held in May 2012, the ministers recognize the improvment of teacher quality as a priority for the future.  More details can be found in the Teacher Quality Ministerial Paper.

Teacher Quality Topics

  • Teacher Induction can be one of the most crucial elements of a teacher's career.  For new teachers to overcome the challenges they are faced with during their transition from student to teacher, it is imperative that they have the best Teacher Induction practices at their disposal.
  • Teacher Education and Teacher Certification may improve quality of instruction in mathematics and science classrooms.  APEC Economies have different approaches to teacher education and certification.
  • Performance Based Compensation Systems (PBCS) are used to increase the productivity of organization's workers.  PCBS are used in schools to attract and retain the best talent, inspire teachers to reach the goals set by schools, and encourage low performing teachers to work towards improvement.
